  4.         WHAT IN THE WORLD IS ULTRA-DISK?
  5.  
  6.      Well, it's my way of presenting the best ShareWare ...by USING it
  7. to compose the demo disk! This disk contains almost 1 1/2 megs of
  8. programs and documentation... highly compressed, yet ready to run within
  9. seconds.. High speed is maintained in SPITE of using a full 
  10. 3-bitplanes, 8-color icons, and 8-color ANSI animations in EACH text file.
  11. Compiling and tweaking this disk has taken close to a full month, at
  12. 16-18 hrs EVERY day.. Just wanted you to know..
  14.      You probably have a ton of programs you've downloaded, yet never even
  15. bothered to un-arc because their utility was not IMMEDIATELY apparent
  16. With Ultra-Disk, everything is ready-to-run...(or already running when
  17. you boot the disk :-)..  I hope to actively promote the extensive use of
  18. advanced compression techniques in Amiga Disk Magazines, to allow more
  19. efficient use of disk space, and give the user more byte for the buck!
  21.      Each disk in this series will be totally different.. and will be
  22. released from time-to-time, depending on the amount of interest. You
  23. should have no memory problems with these disks (if you have 512k); but,
  24. be aware that you may find it necessary to re-boot if memory becomes too
  25. fragmented after running about 2/3 of the programs on this disk... There
  26. are a LOT of programs here! Future editions will use 28-color ICONS!

  28.    A few tips:           
  29. 1) Run the memory-intensive programs FIRST..(Micro-View!, FastDisk, etc)
  30. 2) If you get error messages, or the Xicon screen goes away without loading
  31.    your program, kill as many of the open windows as you can to free up
  32.    more memory. (or use WBDepth to switch to 1 bitplane)
  33. 3) When running pointer animations: please allow 15 seconds between 
  34.    selections, and you have 14 seconds to read any of the animation
  35.    text files and click the 'OK' gadget to load the pointer before the
  36.    animation is removed from ram, so don't spend TOO much time reading!
  37. 4) If your disk drive can't handle the steprate of 2000, change it to 2500
  38.    in the startup-sequence..
  39. 5) If textfiles show up as colored blurs, you're out of unfragmented memory!
  40.    re-boot the disk!

  52. FastMouse installs a handler in the input.device chain that looks for
  53. mouse move events, and when one comes along, it will double the ie_x
